Step away from the Twitter, and just chill already!
Ian Sanders called in today from Leigh-On-Sea in the UK to give us the scoop on his new book: Juggle: Rethink Work, Reclaim Your Life. Having just performed here in Austin for SXSW, this beautiful and gifted songstress/piano-humper has a new album entitled Abnormally Attracted to Sin due in stores May 19th. Check out the first music video from the album: Welcome To England.

The Austin musical festival formerly (officially) known as Marley Fest takes place this weekend once again at Auditorium Shores. Despite these April showers, the show will go on rain or shine, and it’s looking like Sunday will offer up a little for more “shine”. Showcasing the chillest of reggae and dub, headliners for this 12th annual event include the Ska-talites and the Wailing Souls, and local dub heroes Grimy Styles will take stage at 6:30 on Saturday. The event is just $10 per day or $15 at the door, and ticket sales benefit the Capital Area Food Bank. You can buy advance tickets through Friday afternoon at any Front Gate outlet. So support a good cause, share some positive vibes, and enjoy some ridiculously overpriced margaritas and hippie-centric arts and crafts. Gates open at noon and the show ends at 10PM each day. One love!

Friday
You know what’s going to be awesome tonight? Dan Deacon at Emo’s, that’s what. He completely killed at Fun Fun Fun Fest in the fall, sending hundreds of festival-goers into a dance-party frenzy. His blend of electronic distortion and yelled-out dance move commands is guaranteed to be a blast, and the backing 15-piece ensemble, which includes 9 percussionists, is going to ensure that this is a show you will not soon forget.
Also awesome, an entirely local and entirely rocked-out lineup at the Parish with White Denim, Corto Maltese, and Ume. Or, check out the fundraiser for When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth (who got their equipment stolen recently, and are pictured above) at Beerland with the down, dirty garage rock of the Strange Boys. The Dinos, normally one of the most ear-meltingly loud bands in Austin, are playing an acoustic set, which is definitely intriguing.
Saturday
The French Kicks are back in town and playing their mellowed-out indie rock at the Mohawk. They’ve played there before to a decent crowd that left happy, so expect a fairly crowded venue and some fun tunes.
Before that, you should get your spring BBQ on with Do512 at their headquarters on south Lamar. From 5-9, there will be food, vodka-infused watermelon (and other alcoholic things of a drinkable nature), and DJ Thibault spinnin’ some tunes. It sounds like an awesome way to kick off your Saturday night before heading downtown.

Au Revoir Simone is one of the first and only all female electronic bands around (probably one of the cutest too), and have proven to be a nice gem hailing from Brooklyn. First, if the term Au Revoir Simone sounds familiar, it’s because they took their name from a quote out of Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure – pretty clever. I got to spend some time with the band during SXSW, and they are all very genuine and sweet (and very girly – especially when they were reading the fasion & celebrity magazines during my visit). I was also very privilaged to get a copy of ARS’s new album, Still Night, Still Light, which contains excellent vocals & harmonies accompanied by soft electronics. The album will drop later in May, and expect to see the girls (Erica, Annie, and Heather) in Austin this summer. You can also hear the funny ID mishap right here for a good laugh. Today’s catch is “Another Likely Story”. Enjoy!
