SXSW in Photos Part II
Friday, April 17th, 2009(4/12/09) Monty’s Catch of the Day – Au Revoir Simone
Monday, April 13th, 2009
Au Revoir Simone is one of the first and only all female electronic bands around (probably one of the cutest too), and have proven to be a nice gem hailing from Brooklyn. First, if the term Au Revoir Simone sounds familiar, it’s because they took their name from a quote out of Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure – pretty clever. I got to spend some time with the band during SXSW, and they are all very genuine and sweet (and very girly – especially when they were reading the fasion & celebrity magazines during my visit). I was also very privilaged to get a copy of ARS’s new album, Still Night, Still Light, which contains excellent vocals & harmonies accompanied by soft electronics. The album will drop later in May, and expect to see the girls (Erica, Annie, and Heather) in Austin this summer. You can also hear the funny ID mishap right here for a good laugh. Today’s catch is “Another Likely Story”. Enjoy!

Freeloader Info
Sunday, April 12th, 2009Here is a recap of the free stuff I was talking about on the radio this morning…
Threadgill’s is giving away free dinner all week long. North location only.
My filmmaker buddies have to shoot a wedding for class assignment, so if you are getting married and want to get a free video of your wedding, email me and I’ll pass your information along to them. ray at chillville dotttt com.
Our old buddy Matt Dentler from SXSW, who now works in the movie business in New York, tipped us to some free movies streaming online: Apart From That, Supersize Me, Forgiven, Hamilton, and Class Act.
Feist – the Water
Saturday, April 11th, 2009We came across the short film that just debuted for the Water, a track from Feist’s 2007 album The Reminder. Head to Stereogum to watch both the 15-minute film – featuring Cillian Murphy, who you may recognize as the Scarecrow from Batman Begins – and an interesting making-of video.
Great New Artist
Friday, April 10th, 2009We were recently linked to Denmark-based Chimes&Bells by Simon Raymonde (of Cocteau Twins), and are completely diggin’ it. A new band who labels themselves via MySpace within the enormously vague ’melodramatic popular song’ category, their actual sound is dreamy, lovely, and occasionally very eerie. The music sounds like the end of a long night, when you’re tired and ready for sleep. Think Sigur Ros, maybe, or occasionally Grizzly Bear, and definitely give them a listen.
Their new EP is going to see wider release very soon soonish, and we have a feeling they are about to get some major online love for it, so check them out now if you want to say ‘I heard them when’. Sadly, I doubt they’ll be touring around here any time soon, but we can always hope for SXSW next year.
St. Vincent Video
Friday, April 10th, 2009The video is out for Actor Out of Work, and catches the quirkiness of the song perfectly. Check it out:

Bracket Derivations
Sunday, April 5th, 2009This is the 90s Movies Bracket Ray was talking about on the air this morning. To recap the discussion…the point was that there are a million brackets that pop up this time of year that have nothing to do with basketball. And once your real bracket goes south, these are so much fun.

We strongly encourage you to vote your conscience, but c’mon…how are you not going to vote for Clerks?
