Bomb the Bass is one of those electronic acts that have been making dance music since the late ’80’s. Their front man, Tim Simenon, started making records that rocked the clubs and has created a huge following overseas. He took a break in the late ’90’s to produce such acts as Depeche Mode and Meat Beat Manifesto. Well now, BTB is back with a new album entitled Future Chaos. The LP features collabotations with former Screeming Trees frontman Mark Lenegan, and Richard Thair. Today’s catch is called “Butterfingers”, which features Chillville favorites Fujiya & Miyagi. Enjoy!

Sunday, October 19th, 2008
Since we are in the back end of the Austin Film Festival, we have decided to invite several filmmakers on the show. Our first guest is Nevina D’Adamo-Sattia who is one of the directors of the narrative feature The Tree of Ghibet. The film will be playing today at 5:15 at the Ragal Arbor Cinema. Nevina describes this movie as an African version of Oliver Twist, and has used the term “drama therapy”, which is a way of using theater as an educational tool to work with abandoned children all over the world. She has used the term “Free Trade Cinema” which is defined as a way to re-think the economy of cinema in underdeveloped countries: they bring cameras, involve local actors and artists and help them to develop a fair and substainable economy for the arts. Check out the clips below.

Our second guest is director Andrew van Baal and veteran musician David Garza. Andrew has directed the concert film Largo, which is about a Hollywood club and the performers that have come on over the year. The film showcases several performances from Fiona Apple, Zach Galafanakis, Colin Hay, Andrew Bird, and of course David Garza. This will be playing Monday at 7:00 at Alamo Lake Creek. Check it out below.

Shows to See
Wednesday, October 15th, 2008As usual, there are some great shows coming up that you may or may not have heard about; don’t worry, we’re putting our personal choices together to make it easier on you.
Tonight, you should watch the debate. Not as fun as a concert, maybe, but since it starts at 8 you don’t even have to choose between the two. There are plenty of locations where you can see McCain and Obama square off with a large group of people also yelling/cheering/booing at the screen with you; Mary the Mad Blogger will be at Side Bar, but Alamo Drafthouse also has a fun get-together.
After all the political rhetoric, you have some great choices for the rest of your evening. High Places is playing with locals Mothfight! at Emo’s; if you like eclectic instrumentation, spacey tunes and dreamy vocals, these guys are for you. Their MySpace brands the sound Surf/Hardcore/Trance, but there are definite organic ambient references as well. Other shows of note: ACL Sound and the Jury winners the Steps with Built By Snow at the Parish; local shoegazers Le Ren and Douglas Ferguson taking over Psychotropic night at Club DeVille.
Thursday night gives you the option of rocking out with the Laughing, Ovenbirds and the War Against Sleep at Emo’s, or chilling with Carmen Rizzo and Govinda at the Parish.
If you listen to Chillville at all, you’ve heard us mention the Hotel Cafe tour before (when we last had Meiko in-studio with us, for just one example). Well, it is bringing Meiko back to Austin with Ingrid Michaelson, Priscilla Ahn, Brooke Faser, and more; head to the Parish on Friday for an evening of stellar female vocalists. If you’re in a crazy mood, though, the place to be is Club DeVille for the cd release of local experimental psychedelic rockers Reverse X-Rays. They have a really entertaining live set, and with Transmography opening, it’s likely to be a solid block of fun. Other options: the Story Of cd release at Emo’s; White White Lights at Beauty Bar.
We’ll be posting later in the week with your weekend music recommendations, so stop back by; until then, stay chill.
