The Submarines are one of the most underrated bands coming out of L.A (originally from Boston). The real life couple of John Dragonetti and Blake Hazzard carry a unique sound that crosses both folk and electronic genres. Their first full length record, Declare a New State!, was an outstanding debut album, and even spawned several remixes by artists like Morgan Page and Styrofoam. Their latest LP entitled Honeysuckle Weeks was released earlier this year, and picks up where they last left off with outstanding songwriting and performances. I met both John and Blake when they were last here at SXSW, and they are the sweetest people I have ever interviewed (they actually have a real interesting story of how they formed a band and fell in love). Currently, they are on tour with Aimee Mann. Today’s catch is the track, “1940″. Enjoy!
