This episode of what you should see this week is all about breaking down your Friday choices; you’ve got a lot of very different genres to choose from, and Chillville is here to make it all a bit easier.
Choice one – a recommendation we’ve made before – is the Health show at Emo’s. These experimental noise-rockers from LA play to destroy their audience, and it’s pretty much guaranteed you will leave completely satisfied with your concert-going experience. As a bonus, you can occasionally meander over to the outdoor stage and catch Aesop Rock doing his much-lauded rap best to make you dance your butt off.
Sticking to the Red River district, recent Chillville guests Black Tie Dynasty will be grooving at Club DeVille. They, along with locals Follow That Bird! and Till We’re Blue Or Destroy, are opening for the Always Already, whose post-punk British-influenced sound should work perfectly with the rocky backdrop of DeVille’s stage.
You also have the option of venturing east of I-35 to Progress Coffee for the tail-end of Brazos‘ month-long residency. Their new album, chock –full of minimalist folk, drops soon, so this is the perfect time to check out the upcoming material away from the boisterousness of downtown Austin (and grab a mocha while you chill). Also-local and buzzed-about Sunset opens.
