Interview With Filmmaker John Sayles

One of my favorite things about SXSW is getting access to all the creative people who converge on our humble burg. Interviewing legendary filmmaker John Sayles–heard here with his filmmaking partner, producer Maggie Renzi–certainly qualifies.

I’m a huge fan–Lone Star, Secaucus Seven, Eight Men Out, Sunshine State…the list of great Sayles films goes on forever and was a little intimidated…even more so when I found out I had to do the interview right after Austin Chronicle editor and SXSW honcho Louis Black (turns out, their interview was in Studio SX at the trade show, and I–along with the rest of the world–got to watch the whole thing, so it actually became an interesting exercise in what we radio folks call “show prep”).

John and Maggie were extremely gracious, and it was one of my highlights of SXSW ‘07. Here’s the first half of the chat (more to come)…
